My new content strategy: Build first, document second.

I used to stare at blank pages for hours.

“What should I write about today?”

Then I discovered the secret: build first, document second.

The old way (content-first):

Think of topics to write about. Research what’s trending. Create content in a vacuum. Chase clicks or views.

This model means building a content hamster wheel that doesn’t pay the bills.

The new way (build-first):

Build something (even if small). Document what you learned. Share the real struggles and wins. Content becomes exhaust from your engine.

Work this way, and you end up with more unique content than you know what to do with.

This week’s example:

I built a CSV import for my trading app. Took about 2 hours on a Saturday morning.

One build generated: 1. Newsletter about pragmatic vs perfect solutions 2. LinkedIn post about over-engineering 3. YouTube video showing the live code 4. Business idea for quick-win consulting

Four pieces of content from one build session.

Your content calendar writes itself:

Monday: What did I build over the weekend?

Tuesday: What problem am I solving this week?

Wednesday: What’s not working (yet)?

Thursday: What did I learn from failure?

Friday: What’s ready to ship?

The documentation system:

  1. Interstitial journaling - Capture thoughts during builds in a single markdown file
  2. Weekly AI analysis - Extract patterns from raw logs with Claude
  3. Content generation - Turn insights into ready-to-publish pieces

No more “What should I post today?” Your worklog tells you.

Why this works:

You’re creating value first, documenting second. Your content has real substance behind it. You never run out of ideas because you never stop building. Your audience learns from your actual experience, not recycled theory.

My content strategy in one sentence: Build something every day. Document what happens. Ship the lessons.

No complex editorial calendars. No trend chasing. Just real builds documented in real time.
